The Beaumont Animal Shelter called for help. Muttshack was the only organization who answered. Two volunteers showed up there at 3AM, but waited until 8AM to get in touch with the temporary head of the shelter. They signed the MOU and then HSUS heard about it and came barreling in to take over. They had all their cameras going and chased the two Muttshack volunteers away. They stayed a day, doing photo ops and then abandoned the shelter leaving it as it was before Muttshack got there. One of the HSUS shoved one of the Muttshackers.

The volunteers, who had stayed with these animals through Gustav, risking their own lives, were now told by HSUS not to touch anything or to answer the phones.

HSUS had talked the temporary shelter manager to tell the police to remove Muttshack - even though we had the MOU with this shelter first. The helpers cried to see us go knowing they wouldn't be helped by HSUS. And they were right.
